Using wrapProgram makes so that the generated "awesome" wrapper duplicates its
command line options at every restart.
As @psychon puts it:
> AwesomeWM restarts via execvp(argv[0], argv). In NixOS, wrapProgram is used
> to generate a wrapper around the real binary. wrapProgram calls makeWrapper
> with --argv0 '$0'. I guess this is what makes awesomeWM run the wrapper again
> on restart. Without this --argv0 awesomeWM would directly restart itself
> instead of the wrapper, I think.
This package should only install the xmonad manpage but not GHC's (it
doesn't even install GHC in the path). Installing both manpages makes
this package conflict with the GHC derivation.
Fixes#60914
This change will load all configuration files from /etc, to make it easy
to override them, but fallback to /nix/store/.../etc/sway/config to make
Sway work out-of-the-box with the default configuration on non NixOS
systems.
This commit partly reinstates changes from 5465d6f that had been somehow
reverted in 17d3eb2. Also, a comment has been added in the hope that future
changes won't do the same.
Additionally, refactor the LUA_PATH env var to ensure that the internal lgi lua
files can't be required explicitly and to avoid possible name clashes (this
fixes issue #60232).
Finally, rather than using prepending `?.lua` append `;;` to LUA_PATH. Quoting
@psychon:
> This is interpreted by Lua as "add the default search path here" (which does
> indeed contain ?.lua, but also contains more).
Testing done:
- Build with `nix-build -I /path/to/repo -A awesome`
- Start an X session with xterm only
- Start xephyr, e.g. `Xephyr :1 -name xephyr -screen 512x384 -ac -br -noreset &`
- Run awesome like `DISPLAY=:1.0 ./result/bin/awesome`. Additionally, add
`--search` options to expose lua modules that have a name clash with lgi's
internal ones (see #60232 for more details) and `require` them in `rc.lua` to
prove that they are loaded correctly
This commit contains the following changes:
- nixos/sway: Remove the beta references
- sway: Drop buildDocs
- nixos/sway: Improve the documentation
- sway,nixos/sway: Adapt Sway to NixOS
- Copy the default configuration file to /etc/sway/config (Sway will
still load the identical file from the Nix store but this makes it
easier to copy the default configuration file).
- This will also remove all references to the Nix store from the
default configuration file as they will eventually be garbage
collected which is a problem if the user copies it.
- I've also decided to drop the default wallpaper (alternatively we
could copy it to a fixed location).
- nixos/sway: Drop the package option
This is the result of executing:
git mv -f pkgs/applications/window-managers/sway/beta.nix pkgs/applications/window-managers/sway/default.nix
git mv -f nixos/modules/programs/sway-beta.nix nixos/modules/programs/sway.nix
And removing sway-beta from the following files:
pkgs/top-level/all-packages.nix
nixos/modules/module-list.nix
He prefers to contribute to his own nixpkgs fork triton.
Since he is still marked as maintainer in many packages
this leaves the wrong impression he still maintains those.
There’s nothing wrong with unstable packages when they are maintained
and frequently updated. However, when they become out-of-date, as many
do, it is usually best to just get rid of them as the stable version
is become newer than the unstable version. This removes any packages
called "unstable" that have not been updated in over 1 year. Affected
packages include:
- isyncUnstable
- sxhkd-unstable
- dosbox-unstable
Revert "treewide: remove unstable packages"
This reverts commit df01b0b37a04624cfe6f8d2ccb42b99289841b68.
this version is deprecated and no longer maintained by upstream:
https://awesomewm.org/download/
Two years should have been enough for people to upgrade.
Since years I'm not maintaining anything of the list below other
than some updates when I needed them for some reason. Other people
is doing that maintenance on my behalf so I better take me out but
for very few packages. Finally!
76999cc40e changed some hashes resulting in this PR being technically
a mass rebuild. To avoid this, I am restoring some of the hashes (even
though it seems silly). My main goal is to get this PR merged quickly
as treewide changes like this get out-of-date quickly.
This commit should be reverted on the next mass rebuild.
This makes the command ‘nix-env -qa -f. --arg config '{skipAliases =
true;}'’ work in Nixpkgs.

Negative reasoning like `allBut` is a bad idea with an open world of

I have no idea why gobjectIntrospection even was in here. The only
library in there, libgirepository-1.0.so, is not used by awesome. It is
only used by lgi.so and that means it should be found via its RPATH.
The Pango path is not needed in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH ever since
gobjectIntrospection started patching .typelib files with absolute
paths. Relevant commits are 36bef2b267 from 2014
("gobject-introspection: refer to shlibs with absolute paths in
typelibs") and c420de6b05 from 2016 ("gobject-introspection: Fix
patching shared objects").
The above patches did not work for cairo, because cairo's typelib is a
bit "special". However, this was fixed by e44038bcca some days ago
("gobjectIntrospection: use absolute path for cairo GIR").
Thus, setting $GI_TYPELIB_PATH is enough so that all needed libraries
are found.

The unstable branch of `yabar` received some minor useful changes:
- Fixed missprint (f1b1eff481)
- Update information on Debian installation (ce20fe75f7)
- Add indicator to show current indicator using `libxkbcommon` (5aa1fb5eb5)
The last change requires a `libxkbcommon` as additional build input.
Furthermore I thought that it might be better to add the dependencies of
unstable (namely `playerctl` and `libxkbcommon`) to the `unstable.nix`
to reduce the closure size of the stable build.

The biggest benefit is that we no longer have to update the registry
package. This means that just about any cargo package can be built by
nix. No longer does `cargo update` need to be feared because it will
update to packages newer then what is available in nixpkgs.
Instead of fetching the cargo registry this bundles all the source code
into a "vendor/" folder.
This also uses the new --frozen and --locked flags which is nice.
Currently cargo-vendor only provides binaries for Linux and
macOS 64-bit. This can be solved by building it for the other
architectures and uploading it somewhere (like the NixOS cache).
This also has the downside that it requires a change to everyone's deps
hash. And if the old one is used because it was cached it will fail to
build as it will attempt to use the old version. For this reason the
attribute has been renamed to `cargoSha256`.

Unfortunately wlc 0.0.10 seems to be the cause for segfaults on sway,
way-cooler and orbment.
This will also build wlc with all optional packages (i.e. zlib,
valgrind and doxygen).
While the last wlc upgrade (05d79c03ec)
makes it possible to build sway 0.14.0 it also breaks the current build
of sway 0.13.0.
Unfortunately sway 0.14.0 segfaults on launch and I couldn't fix it yet
(there are multiple upstream issues as well). I'll overwrite the wlc
version for sway in order to have a usable version in nixpkgs for the
meantime.
By default, awesome will use "devel" as a version name
(or `git describe`). This has led to awesome always
showing "devel" for its version.
Some extensions depend on version information to figure
out what features they can use.
This change overrides the version for the build from the
derivations' `version` attribute.

i3 loads its configuration from `~/.config/i3`, but in nix-based systems
you might want to build the config in `~/.nix-profile` using a nix
derivation, so `i3` needs to know where to look for the configuration
file.
Awesome can load SVG images, just like it can do PNG, through gdk.
The support for SVG images through GDK needs librvsg.
This commits adds the plumbing necessary in the wrapper that makes
awesome be able to load SVG images.
Without this, awesome will not load SVG images. The related error message is:
> Couldn't recognize the image file format for file

The SYSCONFDIR variable used in the Makefile servers two purposes:
1) During buildPhase, it is hardcoded into the executable as one of
the locations that will be searched for the i3blocks.conf config
file. We want this set to "/etc", so that "/etc/i3blocks.conf"
will be automatically loaded if it exists, as specified in the
manpage.
2) During installPhase, it specifies the location that the sample
i3blocks.conf should be installed to. We want this to be "$out/etc".
Case 2 was already handled correctly, but case 1 was not. This resulted
in i3blocks instead searching for i3blocks.conf in the default value of
SYSCONFDIR, which is "/usr/local/etc", a directory which generally does
not exist on NixOS. This commit remedies this problem by setting
SYSCONFDIR=/etc during buildPhase.
A minor stylistic fix (correcting a usage of "makeFlags" to "buildFlags"
in the expression) has also been applied in this commit.
